Patrick is the Managing Partner of Stace Hammond. He has wide experience in the corporate and commercial sector and provides corporate legal advice principally to banking and finance clients, from large corporates to SME’s and to finance institutions including Finance Companies, Credit Unions, Managed Funds and other Non-bank Deposit Takers. He offers an innovative perspective to business and finance legal solutions in a number of areas including structured finance, securitisation and factoring, mezzanine finance options, managed funds and various tax effective mixed income/capital instruments.
Expertise includes acting for financial product issuers in relation to compliance with the Financial Markets Conduct Act (which governs financial markets in New Zealand), advising on compliance for Financial Markets Supervisors and Managers and their fiduciary duties, international finance and structuring; taxation advice of financing arrangements and capital markets issues. Patrick devised New Zealand’s first immigration-qualifying property-backed Residential Investment Fund where, unlike other development investment offerings, the investor does not take on any development risk.
Patrick has advised on diverse overseas trade compliance and structuring matters including offshore companies. He has had extensive dealings at the policy and regulatory level with Government departments, principally the Financial Markets Authority and also has made presentations to Treasury, Inland Revenue Department and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (formerly the Ministry of Economic Development). Patrick has made personal representations on behalf of clients to Ministers under successive Governments and to the Reserve Bank of New Zealand at senior level.
Patrick is a past member of the Law Society Taxation Committee and is a director, mostly as Chairman, of a number of privately owned companies involved in such diverse areas as financial services, consultancy, intellectual property based product development and sales and equity funding. For over 15 years he was a director of a charitable Foundation and chairman of its allocations committee.
