Aroha graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws in 2012 and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand that year. She went on to obtain a Master of Laws in 2014.
Specialising in Family Law, Aroha helps clients navigate legal pathways in all aspects of family disputes. She provides clear, pragmatic guidance in matters involving childcare arrangements, guardianship decisions, and disputes where decisions are not child-focused or in the child’s best interests. She also helps families understand the legal aspects of decision-making regarding the personal care, welfare, and property of vulnerable adults who no longer have the capacity to manage these matters themselves.
When people seek protection from family violence or need to respond to a protection order made against them, Aroha provides firm advocacy and strategic advice, ensuring her clients understand their legal position and options. She also supports individuals facing the challenges of separation, guiding them through their division of relationship property, child support, and spousal maintenance—whether through negotiation or litigation.
Aroha has a strong interest in resolving legal roadblocks that keep people stuck in disputes rather than allowing them to move forward. Often called upon to step in when a decision has led to unexpected legal consequences, she helps clients take a step back, separate emotion from legal reality, and focus on what the law requires of them. By providing direct, practical advice, she ensures her clients understand their obligations, potential outcomes, and the best course of action based on their circumstances.
Aroha is a member of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa and the New Zealand Law Society Family Law Section. She also assists various ethics committees in resolving disciplinary actions for different professional bodies.
In 2022, Aroha joined Stace Hammond.
